Richard leads our multidiscipline team of planners, landscape architects and designers. He has an outstanding knowledge of planning law and procedures based on 20 years’ practical experience, and continues to build the practice’s reputation as an industry leader.

Richard provides a full spectrum of services including planning appraisals, preparing and submitting applications for planning permission, listed building consent, advertisement consent and Certificates of Lawfulness.

He also represents clients at planning committee meetings and appeals, hearings and inquiries. Highly regarded by his peers and clients, Richard is accomplished in negotiating with local planning authorities to achieve the best outcomes for our clients.

Jason heads up our dynamic Design and Landscape team and is a passionate architect with more than 25 years’ experience in the industry. He and his team have earned a reputation for working closely with clients from the outset, from design brief through to project management and completion, ensuring that their vision is translated into innovative, bespoke design. 

Jason joined Laurence Associates in 2006, tasked with developing the design arm of the practice. He’s more than delivered, building a creative and energetic team which combines expertise with flair and enthusiasm for every project they undertake. 

Jason is well respected throughout the industry, and is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists and a Chartered Building Engineer.

Hollie has an impressive breadth of knowledge and experience across a variety of sectors, from individual homes to large scale housing developments and multi-megawatt renewable energy schemes. Her brief encompasses all aspects of planning work including public engagement and planning appeals. 

She has worked on a range of applications for major development, including residential and mixed use projects for small building firms to large-scale major projects accompanied by Environmental Statements involving national volume house builders.

A full member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, Hollie studied at the University of the West of England, followed by a Masters degree at the University of Plymouth.

Sarah joined Laurence Associates in 2016, providing operational leadership within the design team.  She has more than five years’ experience creating bespoke, luxury homes.

Passionate about delivering top quality designs, Sarah’s worked at practices in London and Australia, attracting commissions on a range of projects, from high-end residential developments to luxury coastal properties and individually-designed homes. 

Sarah is an ARB and RIBA Chartered Architect, qualifying in 2012 at the Architectural Association in London and qualifying for Parts I and II at Newcastle University. She demonstrates a depth of experience across all RIBA work stages, advises on procurement routes, and provides both pre and post contract services for clients.

Ivor is a hugely experienced landscape architect, specialising in landscape projects for housing projects, commercial and leisure developments, and self builds. He’s involved in all stages of masterplanning, from site analysis and initial site layout through to design.

A Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute since 1993, Ivor worked for Cornwall Council for eight years, with responsibility for a wide range of landscape projects including land reclamation, design and implementation of public realm and highways works, and project management of multi-agency funded partnership projects.

As well as expertise in detailed hard and soft landscape designs, he has considerable experience in the preparation of Landscape & Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA) and Landscape Management Plans for a wide range of developments, from large scale renewable energy projects to smaller, less complex housing schemes. He's been an expert witness for a number of successful appeals for both residential and renewable energy projects across England and Wales.

James has a background in construction and possesses extensive technical knowledge in building technology. He's a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, having studied at Plymouth University. 

James is involved in the preparation of construction and building regulation drawings, providing detailed plans, sections, technical construction details, schedules and specifications.

He works closely with project architects, clients and consultants, to bridge the gap between concept designs and planning approval to construction and completion. 

James runs projects on site, providing contract administration and project management services to clients, and regularly undertakes site inspections for issuing Professional Consultant's Certificates.

He's been involved in small to medium-sized residential schemes, industrial and commercial projects, and tourism and leisure schemes.

After graduating from Leeds University, Katherine spent twelve years working in London as Project Manager for businessman, Mohamed Al Fayed.  She joined Laurence Associates in 2013 after relocating to Cornwall.

Katherine is responsible for managing and developing the business, drawing on her extensive experience to co-ordinate its day-to-day running, client liaison, and HR. 

She also oversees the Quality Management System, ensuring that the Company continues to meet European standards in compliance with the certification requirements of ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 and BS OHSAS 18001:2007.

Victoria has been our accounts manager since 2014 and manages all financial aspects of the business. A trained accountant, she’s a member of AAT and ACCA. 

Victoria is also an integral part of the performance management team, providing data on critical key performance indicators, and supports HR activity along with our business manager.

Gilly studied town planning at Newcastle University, and has a Masters of Science in sustainable development with climate change and environment from Exeter University. She is an Associate Member of the RTPI and the Institute of Environmental Sciences.

Gilly has more than four years’ private sector experience in spatial planning and large infrastructure projects,  and has gained detailed knowledge of planning for a wide range of renewable energy schemes and Environmental Statements. She’s prepared and submitted a varied portfolio of planning applications, ranging from marine infrastructure developments to large scale commercial solar and wind projects.

Gilly is well-versed in the appeals process, providing written submissions and giving evidence in person. She prepares permitted development notifications, produces alternative site assessment reports for sensitive projects, and prepares householder applications.

John joined Laurence Associates in 2014 after 14 years in working in local government in Cornwall.

He has considerable experience across a range of sectors, from housing developments to residential and commercial schemes, and specialises in renewable energy projects. 

He undertakes all aspects of planning work, including feasibility assessments, preparing, submitting and negotiating on planning applications, and appeals.

Adam, who has an MSc in town planning, joined Laurence Associates in late 2017.

A specialist in coastal urban regeneration, Adam boasts more than ten years’ local authority experience in spatial planning, ranging from development management, planning policy and neighbourhood planning, to drafting evidence-based documents and development appraisals.

Working within Plymouth City Council’s planning policy team, Adam helped to develop the Joint Local Plan for Plymouth, the South Hams and West Devon, assessing land for site allocation, employment data analysis, and sustainability appraisals.

At Laurence Associates, Adam works with clients on their planning applications, pre-application discussions, and site feasibility studies.

He takes a keen interest in sustainability, and enjoys cycling and surfing in his spare time.

Dave is an experienced designer, responsible for creating planning drawings and visualisations using CAD and 3D modelling.  His photomontage skills enable the practice to produce accurate visualisations for proposed projects.

Dave assists the Landscape Architects by producing Zone of Theoretical Visibility (ZTV's) in support of their Landscape & Visual Impact Assessments.

He’s an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) and is currently working towards full Chartered status.

As a qualified Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor and On-Construction Energy Assessor (SAP), Dave can advise clients on the latest sustainability issues affecting the design and construction of modern buildings.

Ben joined Laurence Associates in 2016, having completed a degree in architectural design, and worked in practices in Oxford, Devon, and Cornwall. 

He's worked on a range of projects, from classic family homes, residential developments, and interior design schemes, through to conversions and commercial developments. Having worked alongside a team of interior designers, Ben has a keen eye for detail, excellent product knowledge, and an interest in material finishes. 

He's involved in the production of planning drawings, 3-D visualisations, technical construction drawings, and details for both building regulation applications and on-site construction work, providing contract administration and project management services to clients. 

He's a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT).

James joined Laurence Associates in June 2017 after completing his Part I in Architecture as a mature student at Falmouth University. He was a self-employed developer and carpenter for 10 years, before deciding to pursue his ambition to qualify as an architect. He hopes to start his Part II studies within the next 12 months.

James has worked on a number of building projects of varying scale, and has a practical understanding of building construction and site-sympathetic materials.

Having completed his own self-build project, James has first hand experience of project managing, working within budgets, and arranging sub-contractors and suppliers. He lived and worked in New Zealand for two years, carrying out small building projects, financing his desire to travel and explore.

Cornwall-born architectural technician Adam Stephens joined Laurence Associates in late 2017. A specialist in timber frame design, Adam worked for a national timber frame designer for two-and-a-half years, before leaving to join an architectural practice in west Cornwall.

Adam completed his BA (Hons) in Architecture (Part 1) at the University of Lincoln, and is about to study for his associate CIAT membership and Part 2 Architecture qualification.

In his spare time, Adam enjoys playing and watching football, long walks on the beach with his dog, and ‘a good pint at sunset’.

Caroline joined Laurence Associates as an architectural technician in November 2017. A graduate of the University of Lincoln, she specialises in interior architecture and timber frame design.

Originally from Beverley in East Yorkshire, Caroline worked for a national timber frame designer for two-and-a-half years, before taking up her role at Laurence Associates.

Passionate about bespoke housing, Caroline develops creative solutions to maximise the potential of living spaces and structures.

In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, surfing, running, and walks on the beach.

Catherine joined the practice in 2004 and is our longest-serving employee.  As media co-ordinator she promotes Laurence Associates’ services and products through social networking and manages all online advertising.  

In her capacity as graphic designer, Catherine supports the planning, architecture and landscape architecture teams by producing supporting documentation using a range of graphic software packages.

Vikki provides day-to-day administrative and technical support to the entire team at Laurence Associates. She joined the firm in late 2017, after re-locating to Cornwall from Essex.

Vikki is fluent in the use of CAD packages to format and collate documents in support of planning applications, including DAPAs, LVIAs, and Environmental Statements.

She uses a variety of software packages to provide visual illustrations of designs, giving planning officers and other interested parties a better understanding of individual proposals.

Nancy is Jason’s Red Cockapoo and Laurence Associates' office dog.

Nancy was still a puppy when she joined the team in 2015 (DOB 13.09.15). She visits the Truro office   once a week, offering moral support and a warm welcome to clients and staff. 

A specialist in cuddles and belly rubs, Nancy is incredibly good natured and loves everyone.

In her spare time, she enjoys long walks in the countryside, swimming, playing fetch with her ball, and rummaging through bins after lunchtime.
