12MW Wind Farm
Wind turbines have been generating renewable electricity at Goonhilly on the Lizard Peninsula since 1993. Our planning experts worked within a multidisciplinary team on an ambitious scheme to swap 14 ageing turbines with six giant replacements.
Standing at 107 metres tall, from base to blade tip, the six turbines were more than twice the height of their predecessors and five times as powerful.
A considerable amount of work was undertaken at the pre-application stage, including liaison with the local community, various interest groups, and the planning authority. We were keen to resolve as many issues as possible in advance of submitting our formal application.
We had been braced for significant opposition to the proposals, particularly given its location within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. However, the plan received overwhelming support from residents and other interested parties.
