We were instructed to design a new single storey restaurant extension for the Port William pub at Trebarwith Strand in North Cornwall. The scheme included replacing the outdated existing single storey lean-to kitchen adjacent to the main building with a new restaurant seating area to take advantage of the impressive views out to sea. The new kitchen was relocated within the main pub which required re-modelling of the internal layout,to satisfy an extensive set of conditions imposed by the Council.
The new extension design is simple and linear in form and appearance from the outside of the building, using the natural slate mono-pitch roof recessed into the bank behind and full height sliding bi folding aluminium doors that opened the full length of the extension to allow access from the restaurant to the outside decking area. The interior of the restaurant includes mono pitch feature trusses with vaulted ceilings, a natural stonework rear wall, solid oak flooring with a wood burner as a focal point.
The client retained our services to project manage the building work assisting the Quantity Surveyors in the tender process and to provide contract administration and site supervision to completion, with a view to reopening in time for the following spring. The project came in on budget and opened as planned and has been a success.
