Our client had obtained grant funding to extend and improve the existing doctors surgery, and instructed us to run the entire project from obtaining planning to preparation of the construction drawings, specifications, schedule of works to the tender process final completion of the build.
The proposal was to provide a self contained surgery extension, to include a GP consulting room, treatment room, phlebotomists, and surgical room for minor procedures that was also linked to the main practice. The only space available for the expansion to the practice was a small rear unused raised courtyard, which was a challenge to provide an extension that could accommodate all of the additional requirements of the surgery in the tight space. Furthermore, the courtyard had several services running through it and the ground stability was poor and the extension required pile foundations to cover the ground conditions.
We were also instructed to upgrade the existing air conditioning and ventilation systems of the building. We designed a single storey flat roofed extension with a Sarnafil single ply membrane which satisfied both the extension and upgrade requirements and planning permission was granted.
Building Regulation approval soon followed, the project went out to tender and we advised the client on the suitability of the tenders received and administered the contract stage with site supervision. The project met budget and the scheme has now been completed to the client's full satisfaction.
