On 20 January Scheduled Monument Consent was granted by Historic England for the proposed redevelopment of a holiday park to provide six holiday units and one replacement dwelling on land at Mawgan Porth, near Newquay.
The site lies within the bounds of a Scheduled Ancient Monument described in the listing as an early medieval settlement and associated burial ground. The impact of the proposed development on the SAM was a key consideration; consultations and a site meeting took place with Historic England during the design process and informed the positioning and design of the new chalets and replacement dwelling.
The proposed development complies with national and local heritage policies and guidance and is not considered to constitute significant harm in relation to the character, appearance or setting of the SAM; indeed, it represents an opportunity to enhance its current setting.
