On 11 October, The Planning Inspectorate allowed an Appeal made by Laurence Associates, granting planning permission for a 5 MW solar farm on land at Town End Farm, Skelton, Cumbria.
Eden District Council had refused to grant planning permission in October 2015 and our assessment included analysis of the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment submitted with the original application, as well as the more general planning aspects of the case.
The Inspector found that the acknowledged environmental and economic benefits of the proposed scheme outweighed the limited harm to the local landscape character and appearance of the area. A full award of costs was also granted against the Council on the basis that it had unreasonably failed to justify its reason for refusal.
